What does the term Support Coordination refer to?

NDIS Support Coordination is a valuable service that is made possible through NDIS funding. It is intended to assist participants who require additional support to access and utilise their funding effectively, with the goal of helping them to build the necessary skills to better understand and implement their plan.

This service can be especially helpful for individuals or families facing complex situations, or who may have difficulty engaging with supports on their own. Support coordinators are there to guide participants through the intricacies of the NDIS platform, providing informed advice on the most effective ways to use their funding based on their disability and their specific goals.

Ultimately, the aim of Sunny Coast Support Coordination is to improve the quality of life for participants by helping them to better manage their daily living needs, while staying within what is reasonable and necessary in terms of funding allocation.

Are there specific groups of people who are eligible for Support Coordination services?

To access Support Coordination, NDIS participants can request it during their Plan Review. The funding for Support Coordination is included in a participant’s plan when it is deemed reasonable and necessary by the Planner or LAC. The amount of funding allocated determines the number of hours a Support Coordinator can spend assisting a participant during the length of their plan. Support Coordination services, like other capacity-building therapies, are billed for every phone call, email, and non-face-to-face support such as report writing.

However, it can be challenging for children to have Support Coordination included in their plan unless there is sufficient evidence that their parents are incapable of engaging with supports or therapies for their child. This is because the NDIS aims to encourage parents and caregivers to take an active role in supporting their child’s needs. Nevertheless, if there is a demonstrated need for Support Coordination, it can be included in a child’s plan.
